Day
7 Shire Reckoning:
Sterday, Foreyule 11th - Christchurch
Today we left
Wellington to fly out to Christchurch. Not looking
forward to leaving Wellywood but the 'road goes ever
on'. Penny and I are the two most popular people on the
bus because of what happened yesterday. Everyone wants
to know the gory details (of which I am all too willing
to recount). One cool thing is that we were able to get
this British girl named Fiona, Orlando's autograph and
some flowers...so pretty cool good deed! Linda was able
to deliver it to her since she was the one who got
Orlando's autograph in the first place. Now Linda and
Eron are leaving the tour as well and they are headed to
go diving on the Great Barrier Reef. What super-cool
folks, I hope they have a great time.
Get to Wellington
airport and in the main lobby before we get to the
boarding area are a couple of costumes on display. A
bunch of different Uruk Hai, an Easterling, a Haradrim,
a Ranger, and some Mordor and Moria orcses. Pix galore.
Also got pictures of the Gollum on Wellington airport
that welcomes people in and also finally managed to get
a good shot of the Arwen Aragorn Air New Zealand 747.

For costume pix at
full resolution go here: COSTUMES
(these pix are
huge so be warned if you're not on broadband it might
take a while).
On the flight, sat
with Debbie and had a long cool film talk about old
movies...King Kong, the '63 released of "The
Haunting", and I told her about Mel Gibson's
"The Passion" which is the next big movie I am
highly anticipating...well, after Kill Bill Vol.2.
Got to Christchurch,
which looks remarkably like England, and checked into the
Camelot hotel opposite the Cathedral. Then Penny and I
went shopping for some stuff and went to the Tap Room
where they have some outstanding New Zealand beer (Monteith's)
and fine Pizza! Now back to the room to work on journal
entries and catch up on some much needed rest. Whew!

Tomorrow...Edoras...and
the golden hall of Meduseld where once dwelt Theoden King,
whose mind was overthrown.
(Its gonna be cold and
wet I suspect.)
